§ 01

Overview

CivilEquations ("we," "our," or "the Site") operates the website at www.civilequations.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit the Site, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this policy. We do not require account registration and do not collect your name, email address, or other directly identifying information unless you voluntarily contact us.

§ 02

Information We Collect

When you visit CivilEquations, servers and third-party service providers automatically record certain technical information, including:

  • IP address and general geographic region (city/state level)
  • Browser type, version, and operating system
  • Referring URL (the page visited before arriving at the Site)
  • Pages viewed, time spent, and links clicked
  • Date and time of visit and device type

This information is collected via server logs and cookies placed by third-party services (see §§ 3–5). It is used in aggregate to understand how visitors use the Site and to deliver relevant advertising. We do not use this data to personally identify individual visitors.

§ 03

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. CivilEquations uses the following categories of cookies:

  • Essential cookies — Required for the Site to function correctly.
  • Analytics cookies — Used by Google Analytics to collect anonymized data about site usage.
  • Advertising cookies — Used by Google AdSense and its partners to serve relevant advertisements. See § 4 for full disclosure.

When you first visit CivilEquations, a consent banner will appear allowing you to accept all cookies or decline non-essential (advertising and analytics) cookies. Your choice is remembered for one year. If you decline, Google Consent Mode v2 is used to signal your preference to Google and ad personalization is disabled. Most browsers also allow you to refuse or delete cookies through browser settings.

§ 04

Third-Party Advertising (Google AdSense)

CivilEquations uses Google AdSense, an advertising service provided by Google LLC, to display advertisements on this Site. Google AdSense allows CivilEquations to offer its calculators and resources at no cost to users by generating revenue through advertising.

How Google AdSense uses cookies: Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.

Specifically, Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie to serve ads to users based on their visits to this and other sites. The DART cookie does not collect personally identifiable information.

Opting out: You may opt out of Google's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You may also opt out via www.aboutads.info/choices or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites. Opting out will not prevent ads from appearing — they will be less personalized.

§ 05

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect aggregated, anonymized data about how visitors use the Site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as how often users visit, which pages they view, and what other sites they visited before arriving here. We do not combine this data with personally identifiable information. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing return visits by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

§ 06

How We Use Information

Information collected by or through the Site is used to: operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its calculators; understand how visitors use the Site; diagnose technical problems; serve relevant advertising through Google AdSense; and comply with applicable law. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

§ 07

Third-Party Links

The Site may contain links to external websites including AASHTO, FHWA, or other engineering reference resources. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

§ 08

Children's Privacy

CivilEquations is intended for engineering professionals, students, and technically-oriented adults. The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information to us, please contact us at the address in § 11 and we will delete it promptly.

§ 09

California residents may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion of personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. CivilEquations does not directly collect personally identifying information from visitors and does not sell personal information. Analytics and advertising cookie data is governed by Google's privacy policies and manageable through the opt-out tools described in §§ 4–5. California residents may submit privacy requests via the contact address in § 11.

§ 10

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, or legal requirements.
